Test drive motorcycle Victory Magnum. Become and power
If you say the word “magnum” when you are a hunter or a military man, he will decide that this is a cartridge of increased power. And he will be right. However, there is such a Magnum, which you can communicate with without a weapons license. This is a model of a motorcycle brand Victory
What do we know about American motorcycles? At first it seems like a lot. Even a person who is not infected with Motovirus will easily call Harley-Davidson. Be sure to tell at the same time a common story that this company was created by Russian emigrants Kharlamov and Davydov. However, this, perhaps, his knowledge will end. Some will still recall (thanks to the iconic Roger Donaldson film) the Indian brand. A not-so-advanced motorcyclist may recall Buell and be very surprised that these motorcycles have not been produced for six years now. Finally, some will come to mind the monster-shaped custom Boss Hoss with semi-bucket motors, although they can be considered a serial technique, even piece-wise, with a stretch. But those who name the Victory brand will definitely be few. And even the one who heard about it will be surprised to learn that the brand is officially represented in Russia. That is, Victory motorcycles can be bought (including choosing the right color and equipment) with all the warranty obligations of the seller and the manufacturer.
Under the sign of victory
The company with a simple but loud victorious name Victory Motorcycles has existed since the end of the last, XX century, when in 1997 it registered in Iowa. Its creators came up with a slogan quite simple, but ambitious: “New American motorcycle.”
The company released its first model already in the year of foundation, denoting it with the alphanumeric code V92C (the motorcycle went on sale the next year, 1998). The numbers in the name correspond to the engine displacement in cubic inches, which is 1.5 liters. From this alone it became clear that the company was not going to waste time on trifles and its ambitions were quite healthy. Moreover, there were all the makings for this: the first-born of the brand were equipped with the latest technology, and more likely by the standards of the next century – Italian Brembo brakes rare for “Americans”, English electronic fuel injection for V-twin so beloved by Americans. It was a classic cruiser.
The process began, and the new brand announced itself loudly (and not unreasonably). Since then, new models have rained like cornucopia, expanding the range of classes and increasing the volume of motors.
Already in the second decade of the present century, the word “bagger”, coined across the ocean, came to us – this is how the Americans christened cruisers with large full-time side racks. Someone believes that the name comes from the English word bagger, which means “excavator”, “excavator” or “dredge”. And although the motorcycle does not dig, this name is given, probably because its side wardrobe trunks are similar to excavator buckets. However, I prefer the version according to which the motorcycle was named so not in honor of the excavators, but because bagger is also the person who carries the bags (bag – “bag”). And here is the Victory Magnum model, which is discussed in this material, the manufacturer reckons just to the class of these very buggers. And he occupies the highest step in his hierarchy!
Opens the Cross Country line of buggers with the letter V on the gas tank. The word cross in its name does not mean at all that it is intended for motocross. The main thing is that it is convenient to cross the entire vast country on it – even from north to south, even from east to west. But not off-road. Magnum follows the same philosophy. He, in fact, has become more comfortable and equipped, and therefore more expensive Victory bugger model. And more individual (if not more selfish): Magnum, unlike Cross Country, tends to be called single. Although he has both steps for the passenger, and a seat. But it is unlikely that the rear rider will be comfortable there.
The Victory Magnum bagger is a typical American chopper, executed in a typical American style. A windshield is installed above the headlamp fairing, but it is actually absent, rising above the plastic only to the height of a matchbox. Such a “visor” the Yankees called Boomerang. There is practically no sense from him, but there is a style reminding them of a glorious past.
I envied myself …
The manufacturer himself calls his Magnum without false modesty the subject of universal envy. Perhaps he is right. He also says that Magnum makes people stop, watch and listen. And that’s for sure! Even in advanced Finland, where our test drive took place, not a single pedestrian or driver was seen who did not spend this motorcycle with an interested look.
No matter how great and cumbersome it may be, the Victory Magnum is beautiful – here neither add nor decrease. But even with such a considerable size, it is convenient to sit on it even for a person of short stature – thanks to the low-profile seat in a sports style.
